Objectives of Hokkaido University of Education
Starting April 2006, Hokkaido University of Education made a new start as a university with 5 unique campuses.

Each of the 5 campuses including Sapporo, Hakodate, Asahikawa, Kushiro and Iwamizawa had both a training program for teachers and a new program that did not require a teaching certificate for graduation. In other words, the university appeared to be a group of 5 independent small universities.

The university is now reborn as a unique university that is defined by the keywords, education, human, region and culture that consist of the following four programs including "Teacher Training Program", "Humanities and Regional Sciences Program", "Fine Arts and Music Program", and "Sports Education Program".

The Hokkaido University of Education becomes fully involved in fields as well as training teachers.
The Humanities and Regional Sciences Program (Hakodate campus) aims to train individuals who can actively contribute to local and regional societies, through the contemporary and academic inquiry and research on human and regions.

The Fine Arts, Music and Sports Education Programs (Iwamizawa campus), the only programs of such kind in north of the Tohoku region, aims to become the largest center for fine arts, music and sports in the area.

The Teacher Training Program (Sapporo campus, Asahikawa campus, Kushiro campus) aims to conduct training of future teachers that fit the educational environment of all over Hokkaido while distinguishing the characteristics of each of the three campuses.
The Hokkaido University of Education evolves to become a unique university that combines both the academic inquiry and research concerning human and regions as well as the development of creative individuals through fine arts and sports grounded on education.
